CAMPAIGN OVERVIEW:
Since 2006, Centro SWU has worked to amplify rate payers voices in relation to climate justice. After the Air Force base shut down in 2001 - the transition of the former base led towards the drive of fracking for natural gas in South Texas. We’ve taken on the utility since this moment ensuring a just transition so families can live a clean, safe, and healthy fossil free future. THis work also comes with deep commitment to advance a vision of just transition, such as the creation of programs that ensure families are safe in their home or have a safe place to go when extreme weather hits our city, or the development of community gardens, solar programs, assistance programs, and places where our communities can exist and thrive together.
Centro - SWU runs a multi prong approach to climate justice, not only pushing back against bad policy and practices but building the bigger we and realizing our vision. We need your help in going door to door and speaking directly to residents to ensure they know about the opportunities and threats in their community and can speak for themselves to protect their neighborhood.
That's where you come in. By working in the field, you will be informing residents and motivating them to participate in platicas, town halls, climate fairs, public comment and to connect with their council representatives and speak up about their neighborhood.
