A Look Back At Our Work With Climate Justice San Antonio In 2025

Southwest Workers Union is a member of the climate justice coalition called Climate Justice San Antonio (CJSA). Coalition members also include: Public Citizen, Bexar Green Party, Cut Out Caterpillar, Pueblos Over Profits, and many more environmental and climate justice organizations, volunteers, and autonomous activists across San Antonio. Our biggest projects center around utility justice at CPS Energy. Together we are fighting towards fair rate structures, an end to disconnections, clean energy, and, more recently, stricter policy structures for data centers.

This year we spoke out at several CPS Board Meetings to speak about our demands and highlight the impacts of rate hikes on low income San Antonio residents. We also held a postcard writing campaign and petition, both demanding CPS Energy to stop disconnections-especially during extreme weather. CJSA was able to host a Paletas In The Park event to gather signatures as well.

As the year continued, we tried many different tactics including meeting with CPS Energy CEO, Rudy Garza, and Board Chair and members. We also collected stories from impacted residents to share with CPS Energy.

Overall we were able to engage with over 10 leaders from 6 organizations and close to 20 volunteers from the community.

We still have work to do and will continue fighting in 2026. If you’d like to join CJSA in this work, please reach out to Info@SWUnion.org or give us a call at our office 210-701-2212.
