Drag Out Ice

“Chinga La Migra!!!!!” could be heard over and over on the Westside streets of San Antonio on the evening of March 6th. This chant was being repeatedly shouted by the folks gathered at Chiflada’s Cocktail Bar for the Mujeres Marcharan pre-party, Drag Out Ice!  SWU, Mujeres Marcharan and Los MENtirosos teamed up to have a night of celebration before Sunday’s International Women’s Day March, with the goal of raising funds for HOLA!  HOLA!-Hands Off Latin America! is currently collecting medical and school supplies as well as monetary donations for Cuba.

Vendors prepped community members for the march with screen printed IWD t shirts, blinged out bandanas that said “Fuck ICE” and even a fun tattoo flash. DJ Dai Dream got us all moving to some reggaeton hits! The energy was positive and gave the MM crew the opportunity to celebrate all their hard work in preparing for such an important event.  With all of the liberties being taken from our communities it is important now more than ever to organize and have our voices heard.

Vanessa Canauhtli, Mujeres Marcharan, opened the space with community agreements, march related announcements and a beautiful introduction of everyone’s favorite tio, Gacho Marx.  Gacho showed up in his signature sombrero with a rattle snake band, and IWD in gold on the side brim. He wasted no time getting the crowd chanting Chinga la Migra! To set the drag show off.  Koirisma was first to take the stage and with a sexy gender fluid burlesque number to heat up the night. Los MENtirosos took turns soloing and doing group numbers that gave Queer Quince Vibes. Red Scare’s performance offering was powerful and thought provoking.  Newbie “Bunny The Girl” performed Sabrina Carpenter like a pro. The lip synch was immaculate! Chappo Roan was pure magic, with many tricks up their sleeves. The show culminated with a Zombie Bazaar performance - complete with machetes swinging and fire manipulating!

The night was a complete success! The Mujeres Marcharan crew was rejuvenated and ready for the next 2 days of march preparation. Overall, the community raised $352 to help HOLA in their fundraising efforts.
